Hopi Ear candles
Traditionally, ear candles were used by Shamanic healers.
Hopi means peaceful people and refer to a tribe of Pueblo Indians
who are very spiritual and have vast medicinal knowledge. The
Hopi people would use ear candles before a trance in order to
cleanse themselves of negativity. Ancient wall paintings show their
importance in initiation rituals and healing ceremonies of the tribe.

The process is extremely relaxing and soothing.  After the candle is
extinguished, an ear, scalp and facial massage is carried out which further
aids blood/lymph circulation and assists in draining the sinus tubes. The
candles create a mild suction within the ear canal which helps to balance any
pressure in the head/sinuses and ears.  This chimney effect, together with
the movement and heat of the flame, helps to create a vibration of air within
the ear canal which subsequently gently massages the ear drum.
Furthermore, the essential oils and herbs within the candle help to soothe any
irritated areas, for example, dry skin or eczema within the ear canal.  Heat
from the candle helps to stimulate the peripheral blood circulation which in
turn boosts the immune system and reinforces lymphatic drainage.  This is
further reinforced in the massage following the candling whilst reflex
zones/vital energy points are also stimulated.
In the West, like for example in Munich Hopi Ear Candles have become useful tools in treating ear, nose and throat
disorders. They are especially effective in treating ear/sinus problems, ear wax removal, catarrh, sinusitis, glue ear,
headaches, sore throats, colds, hayfever, migraine, tinnitus, vertigo and relieving pressure from diving/flying.
Natural ingredients are used to produce the ear candles which include 100% pure beeswax, honey extracts, sage, St John's
Wort, Chamomile, Beta-Carotene and organically grown flax

However, most clients find the treatment relaxing and regularly describe a "slight relieved feeling" in the ears and head but
also a relaxing and calming effect on the whole system. Where long-term conditions are being treated, the client sometimes
experiences slight headaches and occasional popping shortly after the treatment. It is a safe and gentle treatment for
children.

The Hopi candle is not a candle as such, but a hollow tube made out of cotton flax. They are impregnated with extract of
honey and herb oils. The treatment is very gentle and relaxing and may take up to an hour, depending on the condition being
treated. You are asked to lie comfortably and listen to relaxing music. The candle is placed over the ear orifice and ignited. It
is hold in a vertical position, the hands of the therapist keeping the candle steady and preventing any ash falling on to you.
As it burns it produces a gentle local heat. The warm air combined with the oil and herbs soften the wax and draw it into the
base of the candle. The candle is then removed and the ear and surrounding area is then massaged. The treatment is
repeated on the other ear and then a complete facial massage is carried out, paying particular attention to the sinus areas.
Each treatment takes approximately 45 – 60 minutes .You will experience a pleasant crackling sound as the candle burns
and a warm comfortable feeling. Most clients find the whole experience very relaxing. Some fall asleep during treatment.
